Star Power Spotlight: Yvonne Welsh
A graduate student at Boston College and Resident Director, Yvonne Welsh brings her leadership full circle as both a Girls on the Run coach and program alum. She first participated in Girls on the Run in 4th grade, where her team organized a food drive to benefit the Merrimack Valley Food Bank — still one of her favorite memories. That early experience of community impact and girl-powered confidence helped shape the leader she is today.
Now, as a coach, what makes Yvonne most proud is helping girls recognize the power that already exists within them. Week by week, she watches their confidence grow — in how they speak up, support one another, and take on new challenges. She knows these lessons extend far beyond running, shaping how girls show up in school, friendships, and their futures.
She believes Girls on the Run creates a space where girls feel seen, supported, and confident during such a formative time in their lives. By teaching resilience, teamwork, and self-worth, the program ensures every girl — regardless of background — knows she belongs and has the power to succeed.
Outside of coaching, Yvonne activates her Star Power by competing in pageants through the Miss America Organization, where confidence, service, and sisterhood take center stage. Just like Girls on the Run, the mission is rooted in empowerment — helping girls and young women use their voices, recognize their worth, and lead with heart.
