Lesson 17: Small Acts Make a Difference
The big idea for Lesson 17 was Small Acts Make a Difference. This is the first of two lessons in which the team comes together to plan and complete a project to help a group in our community. The team used communication, teamwork, and I Can! Power to plan out the details of their Community Impact Project. We moved and thought about our power to make a real difference in our community in small but notable ways. The GOTR Goal was: Share our Community Impact Project with someone.
Questions and Conversation Starters
1. What did you and your team decide to do for the Community Impact Project?
2. What does “Small Acts Make a Difference” mean?
Lesson 18: Moving Mountains Together – Completing the Community Impact Project
The team worked together and used their GOTR tools and skills to complete the Community Impact Project that was decided on by the team in the previous lesson. Each team member used their unique strengths to complete the project.
Questions and Conversation Starters
1. I am so proud of you for helping this group in our community move mountains. How did it feel to work with your team to make an impact in our community?
2. Would you like to do something like this again? What sort of project could we do together? Who could we help?

Lesson 16
The Big Idea in Lesson 16 was that we can do anything we set our minds to do. Today was a big day for the girls: the practice 5k! The practice will be challenging and fun, and it was a great example of goal setting and goal achievement. The practice 5k helped girls see where they need to put their attention before the 5k event. Make sure to celebrate her accomplishment!
Their Take Home Challenge for this lesson was to tell someone at home about the practice 5k.
Questions & Conversation Starters:
1. Wow! Congrats on your practice 5k. How did it go? How are you feeling about your effort?
2. Why do you think today’s Big Idea was “we can do anything we set our minds to do”?
Lesson 17
In Lesson 17 the Big Idea was that we are all connected. By now the girls have bonded as a group, especially after the practice 5k. The Activity was a fun way to show how the group can collaborate to show connection by standing up as a team with their arms entwined. The Workout further cemented the team’s connectedness as girls ran with someone in their stretch zone. In the Journal, girls considered how their Wheels are connected—those closest to them (comfort zone) and those not so close (stretch zone).
Their Take Home Challenge for this lesson was to explain the Girl Wheel comfort zone and stretch zone ideas to someone outside of Heart & Sole.
Questions & Conversation Starters:
1. Who did you work out with today? How did it go to spend time with someone in your stretch zone?
2. What are some Wheels in your comfort zone? What are some in your stretch zone?
